Bought a blower!

Post by JoeK »

Hey guys been a while since I posted anything, just wanted to inform you all that I found a 451 blower for 500 and jumped on it.... Blower is in need of TLC but comes with a few extras... I got the blower a 54" blade a weight box and tire chains.. When I got everything loaded the guy asked if I ever thought about a cab for it, I said yeah but I'll have to make one ,he pointed in the corner and said take it I won't need it.. So yeah I think I came out ahead on this deal what do you guys think.. I do however think I need some plates to lower the blower down according to the owners manual but I got some time to fuss with that.

got some pictures for you guys, i quick grabbed a few before heading home. like i said the blower is in sorta tough shape but i think i could bring it back  . now as for the blade its not a cub cadet blade it dose have a case sticker on it but it must fit the same anyway

for the lowering plates anyone know what the dimensions are im sure i could make them aswell, the guy i got it from said he never used the blower but used the blade all the time and it shows the blower should be rebuilt from the slop in the impeller to the bent up auger flights but little by little i will "restore" it to its former glory..

Ok...it needs some work...but really what doesnt need something. This might b a good time to ask Steve Williams how his auger rebuild project is coming? Sorry Steve for putting u on the spot  I love the skid shoe repair someone did.....i have been wanting to do that but i need some sort of bender. So did he have the "case" blade mounted on a cub? Dave

Joe - Very fixable. Just don't go too crazy with "beef-ups", those blowers are a real pig on the front end, too heavy already.

Xtreme Motorworks makes the extensions for the blower, reasonable money to me when I bought them: http://www.xtrememotorworks.com/

Here is the page with his snow stuff, scroll down, you'll find them:

Keep this thread going and give us a good picture show on the rehab!

my suspicion was right with how the auger's look and with the impeller bent, a cracked gearbox just had to be why it was greasy under the gearbox.. question.. can that be fixed or am i out $65 for a new gearbox?? i may stop at the local welding shop to see if it can be fixed or i may just put the seal back in with some gasket sealant

That box could be fixed but to do it right will probably cost you as much as a replacement case.

Joe - You've made good progress!

Yes, the chains should only be installed with the "smooth" side touching the tire. What appears to be the left side has the rough edges of the cross chain connectors rubbing the tire. Tire chains actually move quite a bit normally and even "walk" around the tire a bit even when properly tensioned.

Flip that set around and you will be good to go. No sharp edges against the rubber!

Did you get new augers? They look good now. What did you end up doing with the gear box?

Oh, also...

Use zip ties to fasten the extra links on the inside and outside. You never know what they might grab, and it looks neater.

Also, I have tried a variety of chain tensioners. Since tractors generally have wheel weight that protrudes out, and the chains do walk, the spring type of tensioners get hung up on the wheel weight bolts.

I have found that the rubber type are wonderful, very durable, and surround the wheel weight so they don't get hung up on anything when the chains walk. I have used this vendor for chains and tensioners; the chains are great quality from them and easy to deal with.

Rubber tensioners, less than $5 a pair for the small ones we need: http://www.tirechain.com/RUBBER-ADJUSTERS.HTM

Yeah i ordered new ones and this is what they sent, only thing i can see is the shear bolt is smaller then the inner shaft so it kinda slames alittle but other then that fit like a glove... anyone know what belt is supposed to go on here i had to make one work but it work's just cant leave it on with it all the way up in the air, rubs on one of them little prongs that keep the belt on

as for the light i work on case combines quite a bit and some new ones get a light upgrade so the old ones get tossed, these are those lights  and they are controlled by the relay on top of my battery, so they are as bright as can be without bringing the other lights down.

the gearbox i just JB welded and am hoping for the best ill take a look at it in the spring and see if it held up, i guess i do have a spare sitting in a shed at my uncles yard should i need one

anyway i am hoping for lots of snow but none so far :(
