New potential truck

Post by LFR »

So I found a truck online for sale since I totaled my old one, it's a Ford F-250 2wd camper special with only 9100 original miles, the interior is perfect and the engine looks perfect, it's not hot rodded the slightest, bone stock, I wanted to know what to look for that would help me determine that it hasn't rolled to 109,100

Is this like the one from the late sixties? I had to look it up ......cause I'm kinda familiar on most of the newer fords.lol I don't know lorin, I would think with only 9 thousand miles......there should b really no oil that is "gunked" up around the engine. Steering should be super tight. Like u said drivers seat...floor mat and steering wheel should have No wear at all. Maybe take someone with u who really has a good eye for this stuff. Also.....don't the registration somehow show mileage? I know in PA ...every year we register a vehicle we have to record the mileage. Good luck with it!
Wow....a "camper special" .....that just sounds cool!

Rear wheel arch rust is common. Even my 1985 rusted through there. Wheel arch patches are fairly inexpensive. Nice clean engine and interior. That was when they really built them "Ford Tough". You can sit on that hood. I had a 73 and then got an 85, what a difference in sheet metal thickness.

There has to be a unique story for this truck. Why it has such low mileage?

Yes....I would like to know the story too! I just don't see how that is possible..... for a pick up. I could understand if it was a special car like a Corvette, camaro or Mustang.....but a camper special..... Come on! Please find out the story Lorin. It would have to b a death, a major breakdown, or they hit the lottery.

Dag
I saw a 41 ih truck at red power in Bloomsburg a few years back. It had 100 orignal miles on it. Seams a fleet company bought 5 new that year. When the war broke out they needed parts, it gave a few to the other 4. After the war it sat in the corner of a barn for 50 plus years. It was found and restored Around 2005 ish all that was done was just the missing parts installed seams the paint was still decent too! I'm sure geezer would respond with pictures and more cometery but...

So I was going to change plugs in this thing but when I went to change them something looked funny, I didn't see a champion, ngk, Bosch, acdelco plugs, I saw FoMoCo plugs!!!! I am almost positive that they are the original set to the truck! That's pretty cool! And it has all original coil, cap, and plug wires too! This is a beautiful piece of history! It's going to all the antique auto shows in my area for sure, and since u found that I am not going to touc the truck one bit, that's incredible to me!

So I tried answering your question Dave, and what I gathered is the people went on a trip to Alaska in it and then came back, the guy went to a home and then later died, it sat in a barn for 25+ years and then the son in law took it, it wouldn't run with a broken push rod so he took it to the previous owner, the guy I bought it from! This guy replaced some gaskets and seals and replaced the pushrod, the son in law didn't have the funds for it so the po traded him a boat and kept the truck, I got it so cheap because he was just trying to even up on the trade deal, and now it's mine

At least ford is built without a bailout and real men don't drive bow ties for that matter( I am a Chevy fan but since I have a ford now how can't I criticize)

I agree. Ford did it all on their own without government help. My brother calls GM Government Motors. I am not a sold out Ford fan. All my trucks have been Ford but before I bought this last one I really wanted to find a 2006 or under Toyota Tundra but could not. I have a 06 Camry with 155k miles that has never been to a garage for repairs. Other than brakes and a belt the only thing I replaced was a disc brake calliper bolt. Now my truck in the short time I own it with only 83k, I have replaced the alternator, battery, and a lower ball joint. I am sold on Toyota! Forgot to mention I had a 92 Corolla with 345k that I sold to a co worker and it now has 354k on it. Other than brakes and exhaust and an alternator at 44k its first major problem was a head gasket at 275k.
