Seat help....please!

Post by dag1450 »

I really need a seat for my mowing tractor. I have been using a loose fitting cover for years so when I saw this on eBay for $35 I clicked buy it now as fast as possible. But now I have no I idea how to install. I'm invisioning just folding the extra flap and beating the edging on. Can I use the old edging? Any tips or tricks would b very appreciated.

Mc master Carr sells the replacment trim, buy new trim! The new trim is open once on the seat pan crimp it closed. You will need to re-use the clip on the bottom front. I would just let the extra hang.

Dave , I've done a few of those covers and they go on easier if the vinyl is warm .
In the summertime I usually just sit them in the sun for a while , in the winter I borrow a hair dryer ...LOL
I've installed them by myself but a extra set of hands helps to get the trim tight and the vinyl wrinkle free . Also a little patients .
I've also used canvas tent / tarp replacement ringlets for the drain holes . I've seen them in the camping section of Walmart .
Here a picture of one i recovered a few years ago .

Thanks guys. Joe....I got on MC car and man they have a ton of options. I will have to try to narrow them down.....unless u know of one u used and looked like factory?
Jess...looks awesome. I was thinking on just leaving the hole go as they r not cut out. I will see how the rest goes before i tackle the gromits. Jess did u use new or old edging? If new ...do u have a part number. I have not removed the old yet...is it glued to pan? Thanks guys!

Look Tom...u stay out of my seat thread.....and I will not bother your roasting pan u call a parts washer!
Joe...Jess....thanks for being a real friends...and not just a dart throwers! Joe If u could get some pics of your gromit install that would b real nice....and friendly. My day is busey but I will get the welting off the old and prep the pan for a light spray. I guess like a matte black. All the ones I have seen look like flat black....but that scratches too easy.

So about 15 minutes later I'm done!
My holes where a bit to small for the grommets I drilled them out with a uni-bit.

I couldn't do the install mid air as I need something sold to work off of, so off came the seat. A few wacks of the hammer...

Once the moisture gets in it has on way of getting out. Had one only about six years old and the press in nuts rotted away.

Sorry guys....this was supposed to b a simple recover. Now it's just getting way to involved. My "perfect pan" was not so perfect. This is where I'm at. I blasted a couple little rust spots underneath.... And the original paint just started flaking off. So now I'm into sanding and rust control.

I had been thinking that might be the case. Those replacement type seats are stamped from a much thinner sheet steel than the OEM ones.
Complete replacement high back seats manufactured by the Michagin Seat company with the correct bolt pattern can be found on line for around $70. if one takes a little time and looks around. When buying new it's best to veer off from the local CC dealer or any place on line that advertises as being a Cub specific web site, they will both charge you much more and it will be the exact same thing only marked way up in price.
Your over half way there now so keep going, it will be cozy soon !

Yea Ken...I'm excited to have this factory pan looking good again. Machine sanded then did a little wet sanding. Primed today. I have half a can of semi gloss black I will use on the back side. Under the cushion I will use whatever I have.

I'm what u call a patient man.....or lazy.lol. After feeling the new seat cover thickness and the thin groove in the welting......i decided to take Jess's advice and wait till a warm day. Today was the day..... almost 90 here. So after some sports games it was the last thing I felt like doing....but I had sun and son. First try went well but came up short for the clip. Removed about half of each side and stretched the welt and got it almost together. If I had new this would not b an issue. Not quite centered either but I'm not worried about that. The cover really got soft in the sun and stretched great. A little trim on the excess (once I cool down) and I will call this done. Call me chicken.....but I ain't doin no gromits!
