Restoring a 1974 Pargo .
I figured the title would make you look , what the heck is a Pargo ?
I actually picked this up from BB last December , it was his dads , and I decided it needed a second life .
After rounding up some batteries and decent tires and changing a couple of bad solenoids it seems to run OK.
I've started stripping out the rotted floorboard and removed the fiberglass body .
It has one crack in the fiberglass body that shouldn't be hard to repair . Frame seems to be in decent shape , so I'm going to replace the floorboard and repaint the frame . I've already purchased the new seat covers and chrome hub caps . Old school SS Cragars that were popular in the 1970's .
I'm also tinkering with the ideal of putting a trunk deck lid on it as the rear quarter panels closely resembles the late 50's Corvette . Unluckily the front end is boxy and ugly , just the opposite of the curvy rear end .
I'm going to eventually repaint it red .

I see a lot of cub cadets while going down the tracks , its a shame I can't pull over and ask about them .

U r a brave man! That center section looks ....well...Gone! Those hubcaps will make anything look cool.... Maybe even that front end

This will be interesting to see this resurrected, definitely some work there!
I had to see what they looked like in one piece with some paint, so here is my "random internet find":
If that is the same front end, it looks more at home finished and with some headlights. I'm not so sure about the lime green though!

Dave , I originally was going to patch the floor pan , but it was like swiss cheese after I took the floor mat up . Seems water was sitting between the rubber mat and the sheet metal and there wasn't enough metal left in the floor pan to weld to . So I decided to cut it all out . I didn't anticipate the dozens of welds that held the floor pan to the frame , there was a lot of cutting , grinding , prying , and cussin to get it off ...whew ..
The frame has some pitting but is made of thick wall tubing and still has a lot of metal left. I'll revaluate it after I clean all the rust off , but I think it will be OK .
If not I'll add gusset to strengthen it . After I get it clean I'll probably brush some black rustoleum on the whole frame .

Like Tom said if u could mount a set of headlights on that front end....That would help the nakedness.

The weather has been not been cooperating the last week with rain , and now the cold weather with snow today , so I've been doing what I can to get it done .
I covered my seat today from scratch as the golf cart came without one , so I had to measure and cut the foam and plywood base and stretch the vinyl tight . It didn't turn out to bad and the few wrinkles from the vinyl being folded when shipped should eventually smooth out . A lot to do before it will be mounted .
Dave those lights don't look to bad , lord knows that front end needs something .
Due to the vintage of the golf cart , I was thinking of round headlights like the 4411's that are used on cubs , but finding a chrome bezel that would work and look good might be difficult .

Looks awesome! I knew u were going to work in Cub lights somehow! U know the Cub quiet line or 82 tail lights would look good on her backside

Bryan , I hope to have it ready for paint by spring . Riding it around tractor shows sounds good .
Started working on the frame work for the trunk deck lid today . A lot of hand bending and fitting to get the bend radius correct

Today I turned my attention to the cracked right front fender .
I was lucky that it was a clean break with no missing chunks , and that the inside was unpainted raw fiberglass , the problem is that it was an old break and it had a rather large gap that taken a set , there was no way to hold it closed for patching without some fancy clamp work . A few bar clamps and welding clamps and I got it closed good enough to reinforce it on the inside with a couple of strips of fiberglass matting . After it sets up it will be strong enough to remove the clamps for a couple of extra layers of matting on the inside and to repair the crack on the outside surface .
I have to admit that I've never stripped paint off of fiberglass , and this has two coats of white where its been repainted . What's the best and easiest way to strip paint off of fiberglass without damaging it . Will a paint stripper like Bix strip attack the fiberglass ? What do you Deere guys use to repaint them fiberglass hoods .lol

Yum......I can smell it from here! Fiberglass, hot asphalt, and diesel exhaust from heavy equipment.....R just some of my favorites

Jess - I stripped and painted a C3 Corvette years ago. Used paint stripper, water neutralized, worked great. Did not harm the body. Just don't apply it and disappear for half the day. Applied stripper, scraped paint as soon as it was soft, rinsed with water. Goes pretty quick.
I followed with half a summer of fiberglass resin and sanding, then epoxy primer. The epoxy primer is a natural for fiberglass. Topcoat of old school lacquer.
I'm just not familiar with modern paint systems, there are surely better choices than lacquer now, but one that can use an epoxy primer would appeal to me for fiberglass.
Looks good! Keep posting those pics!

OK , thanks Tom . I was hoping to use paint stripper .
I've also seen several youtube video's where guys have used a heat gun . They soften the paint and then they used a scrapper to raise the edge of softened paint and literally peeled the paint off with their bare hands in sheets on a corvette . Pretty cool but you have to be careful not to overheat the fiberglass .
This paint is in pretty bad shape and I'm not sure that a heatgun would work , but I may try a small area to see .
I think I'll try both methods and see what works best . Thanks again .

Jess could you have it media blasted? I think they use plastic on fiberglass or soda.
