I put the paint booth back up! :)
I was gonna buy an ez up thing and make it into a small booth..... but after thinking and pricing....I just decided to put mine up. I have various projects on for this summer... Up now is some super tin.
I had this paint on hand and is about 4 years old....and needed lots or thinner. I should have put more but I was getting nervous about how much I already put in. The orange peel is from being on the thicker side..... not to bad....but I'm a little disappointed....oh well. Live and learn

Ok...so as it dried the final finish got a little smoother. So I'm happy now. :P
Did a little assembly today..... very little. I thought I took a picture of the installed headlights? Oh well... trust me..

Next metal into the booth is 1650. It's taken longer than expected as always. Did some last minute welds tonight. The hydraulic handle had some cracking going on.....hard to believe...idk. I was thinking I was going to weld from the front then grind it down flush....then it dawned on me...weld the back dummy....lol

I guess the heat caught me off guard.....primer was drying too fast so I got some good over spray "stubble". Well....I was going to sand this coat anyway so not big deal....I just hope I don't need to redo primer.

Joe..Yesterday was warm and kinda muggy but not too bad.... for primer...lol. I should have used a different reducer and it would have been better. Today I quickly wet sanded everything....in the rain and hung back up. I used HOT water for my rinse as this helped quick drying. I did sand through in a couple spots....but not much. The Rust-Oleum top coat is very forgiving.
Todd.... the booth is so sweet. I'm near horses.... and is really a must with the flys. If u read up top....I didn't want to set this one up....but so glad I did. If u click on the hood pic....u can see the primer dust I had to sand off.

Trying to get all the white done while it's out on the bench......so I'm moving on to the rims. I forgotten how horrible rims are to sand. Some of the deep chips I will putty. Back will get blasted at the joint. Had some help this evening....till the misqitos chased us in. Brutal this year

 Joe......the only way I get things done is by cheating! My whole life is one big cheat. The tires are original and if I tried to dismount.....they would come off in small pieces. Good thing they have tubes in.

I used the small sandblaster to get into the nooks and crannies....then quickly did some wet sanding. Just hitting the bad spots mostly.

Ok Joe! I did all this just cause you called me out.
Actually I had one all masked up... almost..and noticed the valve stem was cracked. SON OF A BLEEP! So...I just dismounted. I really think these are factory original tires from 77. I don't know when they switched over to this style? Hope to paint tomorrow.

You kidding me....if I lived close to you I would move! :x
Painted rims this morning. It sure was hot....but wasn't about to wait as they were all ready. Turned out nicer than I expected. These rims from 1977 sure are crude, I can almost see every bend or brake line to make them round. I never saw that before...idk. I was little upset that I mixed up about half gun too much. I knew I was going heavy because I didn't want to run out....oh well. I was thinking real fast what else I could paint white....like snowblower parts..or..super parts......but nothing else was cleaned up and ready.

I get side tracked very easy...and it's raining outside for the last week it seems.
The hour meter on the 1650 was unreadable! REALLY! I could not tell what was up or down. The lens was very "yellow" and fogged. So.... In about 1 hr and some house hold supplies....it looks close to new. Probably about 1/2 hr to remove lens. Then...Wash. Dremel with toothpaste couple times. Then Dremel with cleaner wax. Wash and reinstall.
Is it against the law to turn back the clock

Moved the frame into the booth. I decided to take off the front axle....much easier to paint without it mounted. And It needed a better cleaning around all the greaseable spots. I will dip them in the parts washer and should come up spotless.

Nothing like a rainy afternoon to play with some mud. Rear fenders are in pretty good shape.....but just needed that extra touch with some plastic to make them nice. The rear by the left taillight needs the most. I did a lot with a hammer...then skimmed with filler and glazing puddy.

Pretty happy. I had to b very careful to not lose the factory ridge under the taillight. When I started it really wasn't there but with all the sheet metal bending and Bondo....I'm glad was able to reconstruct it.

I didn't want to sand and prep the frame in the paint booth....so we carried it to the other garage and put it on horses. Much better working at that level. I got it sanded and was able to remove the drive rivits that holds the id tag.

Got the frame all prepped.... steering column painted black and front axle ready. I put all the steering linkage together....that way the castle nuts can get painted like factory. It was neat to figure out how it was painted in the factory. Everything was installed on the front axle....but painted separate from the frame. Only reason I'm not doing that is I want to generosity apply grease to the steering components

Funny that the camera took the tint as a bit light, that is Case/IH Federal yellow :?
There's two things left to do on my 100.
1. Watch the paint dry.
2. Slap those babies on.

I finally got my cnh paint. I'm not real happy with it.... it's a shade light. Is that what you were referring to Ken? It's called like "industrial/federal yellow". Why they need to mess with stuff is beyond me. Probably not much call for this paint anymore....idk. Im not like OCD....but I bought this cause in the past the color has been spot on in my opinion. Im all ready and hope to spray tomorrow afternoon. I may hit the paint shop to add a drop of red to take the "sun burst" out of it. :(

Dave, I don't really see myself as offering professional opinion when it comes to higher end automotive type refinishing. But I can only tell you what I did.
The weights in the work bench image do appear lighter however I think that was caused by the overhead fluorescent lighting. When they were mounted on the tractor the shade in day light appeared much closer if not right on. That can be noted in my previous photos.
I was running low on the IH Iron Gard spray paint with only one can left so I painted the inside of the weights with Rust-Oleum farm and implement New Holland yellow and that was a definite lighter yellow. The outside of them was done with the spray Iron Gard stuff. Now that can was probably 3 years old so yes they may have changed the shade a bit since then.

DSCN8210.JPG (977.19 KiB) Viewed 14560 times
Now this Martin Senior 483B stuff that I had mixed about ten years ago was another matter. I think that can was spot on. The marking on the can describe it as Safety yellow. This is the what I brushed on the inside of the fenders strictly for protection of the metal.
