I have this space over a small work counter in my workshop. I was thinking peg board but really looked at my needs and peg board wasn't it. Having an old hack saw and some wrenches hanging on a peg board didn't sound very appealing.
So....I'm thinking less words ....and more pictures will tell the story.

I'm kinda workin' in the 'organizing' direction, but it's not so much a case of 'need bins to put my bolts', as it is... I need to dedicate one portion of one building to be nothing but a hardware-store of machine screws, another of wood screws, one of electrical and electronic components, one of hydraulic components, another of just fittings... then there's PEX fittings, hose, tires, electrical wire...

Wierd Al has a great song called "Hardware Store'... he addresses about HALF of what I gotta deal with...

Way to go Dave. My nut and bolt organizer is made from old Cream cheese boxes.
It came with the house and I have no idea how old it is.

Thanks guys. Those cheese boxes are cool Ken. Just goes to show how real wood and good jointery will last a very long time. I have always liked those "box corners"! I'm thinking my plastic bins will also last a long time...

Shop Organization... What language is that? I don't understand... (A suggestion for those who use the open bins, attach thin clear plastic sheets over them. Keeps all the dust/dirt/flying debris out so when you go to get something they are at least clean)

Yep Steve that is a problem and compound that with this is mostly a wood shop. When I got all done I asked my wife to come out and see my creation. She looks at my old setup and says.."how will you keep the dust out". I said.... maybe an air gun every once and a while. At this point I was pretty excited for two reasons. I was done with the bins ...and my wife made her annual visit to the shop.

That was the issue I have with bin storage. I bought clear vinyl from a craft store and installed it over the bins. Helps a lot. I've been looking at new bins that would be more like the old pigeon hole types the hardware stores had. Something like the Durham units.

I thought I would piggy back this on here because it deals with the shop. I have wanted a light for a long time. I looked at a lot of different fancy lights....but decided on 40 watts of old school. I made the wiring look as factory as possible by tieing into the switch back.

Looks good, but put an LED bulb in there!

And why is the first aid kit on the floor?

dag - I like it. And I actually still prefer incandescent bulbs for some stuff like this. Incandescent light is easy on the eyes.

D2 - That's dag thinking ahead... He knows that while working he'll be so distracted thinking of ways to poke a stick at Big Mike that he's bound to get hurt. Since he's likely to get hurt bad enough that he falls to the floor it's now just a short crawl to the first aid kit!

Yes LEDs have their place but they can look and feel funny. I have been installing many led high bay lights at a factory and man is it harsh! They are probably in the 5000-6000 color. Ouch.
So the first aid kit at home gets tossed around as it doesn't have a good home and Tom wasn't far off. But I snapped a photo of our kit at work. We don't encourage guys to use it as the supply chain shortage is in full effect. But when you do get hurt by all means open it up and use as directed!

I have to admit the kit on the floor just may be practical.

Crickey, dag will just not be outdone! We now have to come up with "stage props" to stay in the game! I'm tapping out, dag wins!!

Oof... these are visuals I don't need! Let's get back to bolt bins and other shop organization. I'll stick with the phone in the First Aid Kit visual, I liked that one!
