So this donkey showed up at my house today, we struck a deal and it’s staying for now…. It runs and drives but needs some love.

Interesting. Is that sickle bar attached to it, or is it just in storage beside it? If it has a sickle bar mower, then that makes it "very interesting"! The dog is chill too...

It’s a sickle, has wheel horse tags on it. Once it melts off and I get some time I’ll try to get it going.

That picture Joe just confirms to me that I made the right call getting involved with cub cadet vs wheel horse. At one point my dad had both and I maybe could have gone ether way. The wheel horse just looks cobbled together. It looks like someone made it in their garage. The cub cadets are so smooth and sleek....heck Tom even took an 1872 out on a date last night! In his defense...I have had a few "follow me home" and we messed around.. but I don't know about a dating one?
You can mess around with her joe...but it looks like a waste of time.

I worked at a wheel horse dealership back in the late 90’s so I’m familiar with them. I also read “straight from the horses mouth” so I’ve got some back history.... I believe your 100% correct, many parts are done with low production costs in mind and just simply bolted on! The Pond family was known to not Waite a thing! Later when the company was sold to AMC (the car company) they did much of the same. In the 80’s toro bought the wheel hose name and finally made changes in the 90’s. The classic wheel horse was made from the late 60’s (as pictured) till around 2005 +/- with few chassis changes. Unfortunately toro has ties to MTD for the last 15 or so years, just like cub they have become disposable.

The whole parts bolted together thing reminds me of scag mowers, where the toro/exmark mowers are much more streamlined.

Bolted together is the design motto of the Economy/Power King tractors. Until about the last 10 years of production when they sort of standardized the parts list it was about as close to a tractor kit as it could be. It's one of the few lines out there where you could park 10 tractors in a line all the same type and within 2 years of production of each other and find that no two used the same parts sets!
