WAY off topic Struck Dozer

Post by SWilliams »

Saw this on Craigslist. Looks like it would be fun. Anyone own one?

I was thinking it would be a neat platform for a custom CC dozer.

Steve, I don't own that model, but I do have it's big brother. It does a great job and I have a ball using it.

Steve , I've thought of that very same thing , taking a small struck dozer and putting Cub Cadet sheet metal on it .
Be a neat project to do.
The wife better hope I don't find one reasonably priced local to me....
I see a lot of cub cadets while going down the tracks , its a shame I can't pull over and ask about them .

Steve, can you or anyone tell me if that's one of the Struck's that were all belt drive? I've never seen it, but my neighbor has one that he says you can't keep the belts on. He says it throws belts continually. I've offered to work on it for him (or even buy it) but he's not interested in either. I know he's very disgusted with it but refuses to part with it.

Find an already made Cub Cadet one. This is one that's in NY

Paul,
Yep that one is belt drive. They are usually pretty trouble free as long as the bearings and pulleys are in good shape.
Kind of a snake nest with all the belts but once you look it over the layout becomes logical.
On the one in the ad you can see the rear drive pulleys under the seat.

There is a main double V drive belt from the centrifugal clutch on the engine back to an upper and lower jack shaft. This is the only really special belt on the machine. The upper jack shaft turns clockwise and the lower one turns counter clockwise. This is because of the way the belt wraps the pulleys.
Then you have two belts per side that go from the jack shafts back to the rear drive pulleys. These are also the directional drive belts and they normally sit slack. The clutching handles actuate idler pulleys which tighten the belts depending on which way you want to go. The rear dual pulleys drive sprockets that further reduce the speed and increase the power. I think the overall reduction is something like 80:1

The one in the add looks like an MD 1200 with a different engine.

Thanks for the good explanation, Steve. My neighbor says the frame isn't rigid enough to keep the belts in alignment, but I'm guessing he's just using old worn out belts on his. I've never seen one with all belts sell, but that's a very reasonable price compared to what I've seen Struck dozers sell for. Thanks for posting the listing.
