aftermarket snowblower for 2086?

Post by JoeK »

hey y'all, i was wondering about this for a while and been busy the last few weeks, i was wondering if there were an aftermarket snow blower that would work on my 2086 cub cadet, i have been looking on Craigslist now and then and see new or like new MTV snow blowers. they say they fit 1000 and 2000 series lawnmowers, can one of those work for me or should i try find one made for my tractor. if someone could put a picture of one up so i can study " still really haven't seen 451 in good detail" i can easily eliminate the ones that wont work for me. thank you.

ps. mods if in wrong place please relocate. thanks

Joey - Although it is not impossible to adapt something else, it could be very difficult and there are plenty of the models of snowblowers that were intended for your tractor available. Both the 451 and 551 will fit your Super.

The 450 was the first version of the 451 and was made for the earlier tractors with the smaller diameter pto and is not geared properly for yours. Your 2086 would have the large diameter pto, so only look for a 451 or 551. If you troll Craigslist regularly, you will find plenty to choose from.

I don't know what Cub stuff brings in North Dakota, but around here a 551 in excellent but used condition I would guess maybe $500, maybe a little more. Fabulous paint, looking nearly unused would bring more. A 451 might be a little cheaper, but condition is the bigger price driver.

I am anxious to try a 551 myself. I currently have a 450 & 451 and I can't bring another blower into the herd until I get rid of one. I believe the 551 has a larger fan so it might perform better. The 551 is built a little lighter, but you shouldn't be ramming anything with them anyway, so probably not a big deal. A friend of mine has both a 451 and 551 and he thinks the 551 might be a little less prone to plugging the spirals. If you don't generally get wet snows, it won't matter. The 451 works great in dry snow that won't plug the spirals.

MTD used the same blower head (Housing, impeller, auger, auger gearbox and chute) on many tractors (and even the large walk behinds) they built. The problem is the drive system and mounts are usually very different. Basically you have the options of CC 451(with drop kit), the CC551 and a rare Bercomac built unit. There was also the Haban unit built for the earlier supers. That one could have the drive system easily changed to operate with the newer clutch on the 2086.
