This is where we can discuss all the stuff made after IH's sale to MTD.

1864 hydro lever adjust.

Post by rdehli »

blowing snow this morning with { new to me equipment} 451 blower and 1864 ... hydro wants to head right back to neutral, when moving forward, I have attempted to tighten the cross shaft, but it seems I get nowhere' the lever just seems slopy etc. Trunion looks to be in decent shape , little or no wear. Have I missed something. On the older tractors they show tightening the lever to 8 pounds of pull using a fish scale. My 1812 is adjusted for plowing , tilling etc. set the hydro and forget it. I really want the same on this guy too. advice and thoughts welcome. thank you

Rob - I had to put a good bit of force on the wrenches for the cross shaft, one wrench on either side of the pedestal. It took almost all I had to tighten up my Cyclops hydro lever. You and I might be headed for new friction washers if that doesn't do the trick.

Try tightening again, wrenches on both sides of the pedestal. If you don't have to turn the wrenches very hard, you aren't there yet.

Let us know how it goes, I am curious.

Took the nut off and discovered that the po had the bell washers backwards and one was even missing. Ordered New ones and a new friction disc. Should be in business by the end of the week.

Well, that ended up being simple enough. Let us know how much force you need with new washers and everything right. I think I had to tighten mine so much because I probably need a new friction washer.

Tom

It's really not that bad. I did not remove the plastic dash, the biggest pain was the battery box. The bolts had all seen better days. They all got replaced. The 1864 has plenary of room behind the dash to work, that is so nice to actually see what your doing.
