#13 and #8 both have a #7 ball bushing pressed into them. The third picture down shows the correct location of it in the rear coupler. Both of your front couplers have the ball bushing in the correct location, but the one on the left is missing the ball. There are two flex discs on each end of the driveshaft. The fan should be the same as any of the gas-powered 82 series tractors.

All of that is what happens when driveshaft issues are ignored too long. That's more or less what the driveshaft in my 782D looked like when I got it.

How do you know you have drive shaft issues, what are typical symptoms?

Matt's correct. Here's number 13 and 8 new. They come new without the spherical bushing/bearing. If the bearings were somewhere else when you removed everything, well that's not good.

#13 is the front coupler I'm referring to...#8 is the rear coupler. It wouldn't make any sense for there to be one of those ball bushings in #10, as it is pinned directly to the driveshaft. If what you removed from the front of the driveshaft is the top item in the third picture down, then some idiot who didn't know what he was doing was in there 'repairing' things. That's a rear coupler and 2 front couplers that you have pictured. That is NOT #10, it is #8 in the drawing.

Got a drill press? You can make one yourself. It's just a piece of 5/8" cold-rolled with a few 1/4" holes drilled in it.

Bryan,
I can make you one if I have the old one for a pattern. I have made dozens of them. I have a jig that will center the holes in the shaft.

Send me an email and we can work it out. farmallgray at aol.com

Todd,as I remember the jig you have was a very clever but simple design. Is there a pic on here or would you post one as I'll bet a lot of guys could use one in their tool box.

Mike,
I'll have to do some digging or take a new pic. I'll post it in the tools topic.

For what it's worth, the 1572 that I bought had the same problems (as is typical with diesels). My engine coupler was completly wallowed out and my driveshaft tapered down to a pencil looking end, I bought the engine coupler with the brass bearing already in it, the driveshaft section to the clutch assembly and the brass bearing for the rear of the driveline from the local International/Cub Cadet dealer for around $300.00. Pretty pricey, but when the parts came in, it all went together fairly well (alright there was some cussing and bleeding). This will be my second season on those parts and still running like a champ!! The reason the driveline failed was from the rearend coming loose from the frame (actually the PO allowed three of the six bolts holding it on to get so loose as to shear off) I don't take it out of the garage without making sure all the rear end bolts are tight! Food for thought.....
