Tri Rib Front Tires for my 782D?
Hi Guys,
I have a 782D that's going to get new front tires this spring. I'd really like to put tri-rib's on it to match the ag tires on the rear of it for more of a "farm tractor" look.
What size Tri Rib front tires would be recommended for the 782?
Is there a preferred place to buy them through?
Thanks! Rob

You only have a couple of options for tri-ribs. The only tri-rib that will fit your stock rim is the firestone tri-rib available at M.E. Miller tire. They are expensive though. $140 a set. Your other options would be to cut and narrow your stock rims. You cut a 1 1/2" out of the backside and weld them back together. Then you can put either 350-8 or 400-8 tri-ribs on you tractor. The third option is to buy wf/ql 3/4" spindles and use the narrow rims off earlier tractors.

I have the 3rd option above on one of my 782's and it looks great. I went with the 4.80x4x8 tri ribs and it does great. Here's a pic of what it looks like.

In my opinion the Firestone tri ribs are too tall and don't look right. I have the Vredestien 5 ribs on my 882.
They still give the farm tractor look and are sized right for a standard GT.
On my 782 I made narrow rims by making new hubs for a set of narrow 3/4" hub rims and put 4.00-8 tri ribs on. I don't have any pics handy though.

Thanks guys, for the input and pictures!
Stevet, I really like the way your 782 looks with the narrower wheels and the smaller tri-ribs.
Todd, I also like the look of your 5-ribs, especially with the wide rear tires.
Man, I thought this would be a simple task....the decisions now!

Is there a photo anywhere of a GT tractor with the 16/6.5-8 Firestone Tri-Ribs that Miller sells?
I'd like to see how big these tires actually look.

Rob, I had a set of the Firestone Tri Ribs on my Simplicity Prestige and I sold them, not only do they look to high they also tear up the lawn when turning, I run the narrow rims on my 1250 & 129 no such problems with them with the Tri Ribs. JIM..

Thanks Jim, I appreciate the picture that you emailed me as well. I actually think the look great
From your advise, as well as others though, it sounds like I should look for some wide frame spindles and narrow rims and go about my tri-rib look that way.

Rob,
Look back through your old Red Power magazines if you keep them. In the May/June 2008 issue I put a couple pics on my cousin's 782 with those tires on the front and 10.5 super lugs on the rear.

I have a 1810 are the front wheels the same as a 782? They have the same size tire I now but mine don't look as wide from some of the pics I've seen

I missed seeing you in Albert Lea last week....I saw the rest of the Red Power crew, but didn't see you.
It was great to see all of the Cadets there and what was really cool, is that I saw quite a few 82 series tractors with Tri Ribs as well as one with 5-ribs similar to yours, which I have to say, I think I like best!
Where did you purchase yours?
Thanks, Rob

Rob,
Here is a thread about them;
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1070&p=6106&hilit=v61#p6106
We didn't make it to RPRU this year. Other family commitments, the price of gas, and distance were all factors. We hope to make it again next year.
I'm trying to attend a few more closer shows this year to make up for it.
