Seller's remorse

Post by MattS »

Well, the time has come that I parted with my 882 gear drive with power steering. It is tough cause it's such a nice tractor. If I could back out of the deal I think I would, but the guy is coming from NY sometime today.

This is why I have to sell. I think I need Cub Cadet's Anonymous.

Matt,
Do you have photos from when you built it? I'm just curious how the clutch and driveshaft worked out. And does it have hydraulic lift?
How did you make that work?

Todd, It still had the hydraulic lift. To say it was a tight fit is an understatement. The driver plate for the clutch is two 1/4" steel plates one that is 3" diameter that is up against the engine and then the driver plate up against that. Those two together gave me 1/2" to hold a pilot bearing for the drive shaft. I had to move the clutch arm back on the shaft about 3" and hung it off the dash tower. I took a piece of heavy wall tubing and bored each end to accept a needle bearing for the 3" difference. That tube is installed on the drive shaft between the teaser spring and the throwout bearing. The hydraulic cylinder for the lift needed a little grinding on the mount for clearance, but not much. The back of the clutch disk needed a large bevel to clear the steering box.(before power steering)

This is where the clutch arm needed to hang. That is a steering bracket from a 1862 that I hung the arm on. The arm also needed to be extended about 2".

This shows the two plates stacked together.

For the power steering I took a valve from a 1862 and stuck it up as high in the dash as it would go. Had to move the battery out a little and make a strut to support it.
