super lift cylinder rebuild

Post by Cubrick »

Howdy folks, lately and apparently for some time, the lift cylinder on my 2072 has been losing oil through the rod seals. I've been working the super pretty hard lately with the belly grader blade and 442 tiller so it's had a few long hours of work. tonight after work i took the cylinder out of the tractor and broke it down after picking up a reseal kit for it earlier this week. as soon as i got the grime off the cylinder i saw why it began leaking worse in the last few weeks. the rod has a deep 3/4" long gouge in it. every time the rod went in and out of the cylinder it tore another piece of seal out until there was a channel for oil to just run through when extending the rod to lower the lift system.
hard to see in the picture, but it is about 1" down from the loop.
the other picture is all the parts and the reseal kit. don't even ask what it cost!
tomorrow i am going to pull the lift cylinder out of the dead 982 until i can fix this one.

Frank, the reseal kit was 53.xx. it contains a new wire, three o-rings, and a flanged seal.
