Guys, I've got a 400 8hp tiller that I am mounting on a tractor with factory Cat 0 3pt (JD 400).
The unit had a 3pt adapter kit option as shown here.
.
Can anyone tell me what the purpose of the connecting links (items 10 and 12) were? As they do not seem to
carry any of the tiller load (That was done by the LH and RH linkages - items 1,2, and 3 above).
I would like to use the current 3 pt center link instead of these adpater kit linkages but need to understand what
purpose the adapter kit links served and if there would be any negative ramification to my using the factory
center link instead. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 400 Tiller 3 pt set-up
OK Guys had some seat time today after I fabricated a new pair of 5" and an 8" links for the tiller. I ended up only using one 5" and the 8" as I connected that to my center link instead of the mounting bracket on the back of the tractor. I also fabricated a new wheel mount out of heavier guage steel plate as the stock one was bent beyond use. After getting everything in place I noted that the purpose of the linkage is to inhibit the tiller from rolling under itself when moving in reverse or bouncing out of the soil line when it gets into something hard.
I had a chance to give it a workout today as I tilled a friends garden. All in all, the unit ran very well and made quick work out of a 20 x 50 plot. About 8 passes and it was covered. I must say I'm very impressed with the strength of this machine.
