Thanks vince, a couple yrs ago when i started painting i was going to do it outside but the weather was never right, too hot, cold, windy, buggy, dark, wet, you get the point. This was the best thing i did for myself, its 8x16 ,cost under $100 and i can take it down and set-up in about an hr. Dave

Dave - Great work! I have to ask, why three 450 blowers? I can see having one as a back-up, but three of those suckers takes up a lot of real estate. (You can tell I am storage space challenged... )

Tom, In the snow removal dept. QA 36,QA36A,QA42A,3-450's,42 blade,54 power angle,2-401 power angles. I am out of room in my "Den". I guess i am a sucker for a good deal as most of my stuff i get cheap!! My most expensive snow attachment was the IH 54" power angle, $350 and it looks like new.Your right on the 450's, i do plan to sell one.

Oh yea, I will not even get into my Jacobsen snow removal dept.  Did i say im out of room ! Dave

Dave, The blower housing is really easy, the mounting hitch not so much. You can remove the whole hitch with one long lower rod/pin and two bolts on sides near the fan. The blower gear box comes off the back with 4 little nuts and is splined into the blower fan, then remove the cup bearing bolts on the housing sides that hold the augers in but do not slide cups out until u remove the center support bolt on the auger gear box. Slide out the side bearing cups and the augers, gearbox, and fan will pull right out, then its just a sheer pin to remove the augers from the axles. If that 451 has that yellow powder coat finish on it i would really consider geting that blasted off as that is know for just peeling off in sheets. Oh and back to the mounting hitch brake down. GOOD LUCK with that ! Dave

Dave - I now understand; you have more storage than me! It is funny how we will fill whatever space we have for this stuff. I just have less space than you, so my acquiring ability has been shut down sooner. (I only have room for a 450, 451, 54" Haban dozer, and a 10hp/28" Ariens walk behind! )

I have promised myself that I will sell the Ariens if I do get the third Super... Well, maybe, one does need a back-up to the back-up...

Just an update on how slow im going, lol. The one 450 had a little more rust than i felt i wanted to tackle with my sand blaster setup, so i went to the local shop and he said around $100 for housing and 2 augers. Man $100 vs $8 at home for two bags of sand ,that was a no brainer.I think it turned out pretty good. I did not take all the paint off, i will power sand these edges smooth. I'm running out of nice weather so i need to step up my game to get these painted.

Most of the nice warm days this fall i had to take care of things at work so i did not get as much done as i had planed. I primed one 450 this afternoon, i need one more warm day to lay down the finish coat on this one. I think i could be done for the winter but we will see if the weather permits

Dave - There seems to be three types of us Cub guys when it comes to paint: 1) ignore it, run it as is 2) rattle can, make a decent looking worker or 3) all out pro paint job, complete teardown.

Paint really makes the difference in a handsome tractor, but I have become a "rattle can" guy, and paint what I can without complete teardowns. They aren't at your level, but you can do a pretty decent job with proper prep and a rattle can.

I have painted one car correctly in my life in a friends professional spray booth. Lacquer, with numerous sandings between coats. It turned out fabulous, but I think I am still scarred from the magnitude of the process.

You do great work and the complete teardowns will force you to fix things you may not have noticed otherwise. Some day I hope to get the time and room to do better painting.

Thanks. I think i get my love for painting from my grandfather, he painted everything back in the thirtys and fourties when the colors were real "drab" and "war like". I think at the age of 7 i was taking wheels off and masking windsheilds then spray bombing my tonka toys. All of these attachements that i have been painting r not being "restored", They still have some pitting in the steel that would just b to time consuming to fix so i call it a "fix-up". On these blowers i do plan to replate the hardware, i have my zinc plating bucket all set up and ready to go this winter.
Todd, in a nut shell the booth is 8' w x 16' l x 8' h studed out with 2x3 and 2x4. I have a box fan on the garage door end and a row of furnace filters on the other. Then i have a 4x8 plywood door. I will try to get a few pics for the details. Dave

It was today or ....... May ! The conditions were not great but good enough to geter done. This is one 450 blower, it took about 44 oz of mixed material. The spiral augers were maybe the hardest thing i ever painted, hard to get the gun in the center and not hit the outside. I saw these one time in black and it did look good but i wimped out . Kept the old decals as they were in pretty good shape
decals r still under tape in upper right
