What would you carry

Post by drcjv »

My 1772 has a tool box on the back. Whith the limited space what would you carry. I am thinking 3/4 wrench for 3pnt, 15/16 wrench for 3pnt plow. Extra hair pins and hitch pins. I would like to carry a hammer but any one that would fit is not really big enough to be of any help. Any ideas on what might work as hammer and also fit.

I think your right about the 15/16 and 3/4 wrench , but I'd probably also carry a 10 or 12 inch adjustable wrench . Also a few extra various hitch pins and clips , they do occasionally fall out while plowing and get lost , I've seen it a few times . I've loaned out a pin in the middle of the plow field and saved a fellow from having to limp back to there trailer .....LOL .

I've got a similar tool box on the back of my 982 and it does come in handy , especially if you have to field adjust your plow .
Lets face it , you can pre adjust you plow according to the Brinly setup guide , but often you have to tweak the setup a bit the first couple of passes thru the field depending on soil conditions .
I see a lot of cub cadets while going down the tracks , its a shame I can't pull over and ask about them .

I carry a pair of pliers and one of those 4 way screwdrivers. You could put in a smaller hammer and adjust the handle length.

good call on the leatherman!
At plow day 3 "plow day in paradise" My 147 hydro lift lever broke when I put the plow down as far away from the truck as you could get! It took me almost 20 minutes at full hydro to get back to my truck and all I can say is it was a good thing i had my Leatehrman! I was able to turn the valve and pick the plow back out of the furrow. Once back I removed the broken parts and found the farm owner, we jumped in his jeep and off to the welder in town! That repair is still holding over 10 years later!
