1864 Brake return spring

1864 Brake return spring
I just broke my brake return spring!!! My own fault - failed to note how it was installed before I removed it. One end was through the clevis pin on left side, but I cant remember know if the front end goes to the brake pedal or to the notched out tab on the frame. Can someone help me to make sure I don't break it again once I buy a new one!
