Ok so I finally got all the brackets etc needed to hook the pump to the tractor and was able to "run" this weekend...

Long story short is it doesn't run. I didn't have time to mess with it much yet and I have some things to try but with the pump turning even at full throttle the tiller part barely spins either direction and you can stop the tines very easily.

Irritated would be an understatement as I easily have 1000 bucks in this tiller set up and it won't run.

So... I was not officially educated as a engineer nor a hydraulics person!

With that said my dad didn't raise me stupid, so you all know I tore into this thing to see what was up with why it didn't run. I pulled the pressure hose, stuck it in a 5 gallon bucket and turned the pto on at idle and got nothing. Ok so the pump was "bad"! I tore it apart looking to find something wrong, except it looked really good inside. (Now this is where I really missed my dad as I couldn't call him to help me figure this out.) But somewhere in the back of my head I heard him say "slow down, take your time, and figure out how it works".

I've changed seals in hydraulics before but I guess I just never paid much attention to how they actually work. Hydraulic pumps are pretty simple so surmised I thought it was setup to run the opposite way from which I needed it to run. I put it back together the way I thought it should go and bam it worked! It also blew the front seal of the pump and got even more hydraulic fluid everywhere..... But I didn't care as I knew then what I hadn't done and how to fix it.

I am pleased to say it now works like it should and is a digging monster! I was able to finally till up the area I needed it too and I hope to seed it tonight when it cools down some.

Two things I learned from this experience. One, I hate having something broke and not knowing what is wrong! It's not nearly as bad if I know what's wrong and how to fix it. Two, I spent my entire growing up years until I was about 25 NOT listening to my father. When I was finally ready to listen he didn't have many years left. I miss him dearly, but I especially miss him when I need his brain to help me figure stuff out.

Several years ago I had a little bobcat torn apart across my garage, I was really irritated at it but my dad drove the two hours to my house and helped me get it all back together. I don't have that option now but I am thankful for the friends I have who at times help me with my projects.

Anyway here is what I needed tilled and a few pictures as I know everyone loves pictures.

You can also see in the background of the first pic a 3235 I bought without the motor as it has a good rear end in it so I will be able to put my #1 3240 I got from Ray back together like it should be.

Hey thats great on the fix! But thats it!! U drive all that distance and pull your hair out on the hydraulics for.....a few small flower beds I thought u were setting up to like redo the whole lawn or something. I guess u could sell it and make some money or start a business. No...it does look fun to have. Dave

I don't think I'll be selling this anytime soon as I am working on collecting attachments for the 3K series tractors. Other than my original 782 (which I'll never sell) these are all I have and all I want. I've had literally everything Cub made garden tractor wise and these for me are what I like best.

I know this is from a while ago, but I am looking for 3240 decals. Bbaker, how did your decals turn out? And will he make more? I need both hood decals, both side panel decals, and the front bumper decal.

Brent - Welcome to the forum! Unlike some other forums, we are hard to offend. You can unearth the oldest of threads here without getting flamed!

I'm sure ol' BB will stop in soon and fill you in on the decals...

I can have more made. I keep thinking I need to pull all of mine off the best ones and have Eric remake them all and then he could sell the whole set.

I bought front bumper decals over the winter from MTD. I bought a couple extra just incase ole BB dosent get any decals made before my 2041 deadline of restoring my 3240!

yes... it's a problem. Actually been looking for one of these for a while and finally snagged one!

Time flies when your having fun. I mow every week with a 3240 and I still love that tractor. 48" deck mows really well, and I use it to move my trailer. Haven't taken it to a plow day yet, but one of these days probably will!

Bryan - I'm with you on moving trailers with the tractors! Both the utility trailer and camper get parked with the tractor, much easier than using the truck for tight areas. My camper is about 3000 lb, so that is a handful for the Super, but I only move it on my flat parking area!

Front suitcase weights are a must if there's anything on the trailer.

Not needed with the Kwik-Way loader hanging off the front, even with an empty bucket!

I'm down to just two 3K tractors. Both 3240 models. I have for them two 48" decks and a 60". I also have two snow blades, one blower, and the hydraulic tiller. I also have a 3pt for each tractor and quad hydraulics but haven't yet gotten all that installed.

Those two along with my ole 782 is all the cubs I own and really don't plan on getting anymore.

My interests have gone to bigger IH tractors so working on the cubs just isn't much of a priority.
