Followed me home

Post by vince_o »

Eyed this one up at a dealer we work with a few weeks back when I went to get a bush hog. Runs nice hoping the PO has the rest of the 3pt. Its going to be my mower here at the house.

Vince, has it had the main jet in the carb changed yet? That is the only part that is different between the "15" hp in that tractor and the 18 horse in the 1863...

Steve i wouldnt think so. Thats why when David called me I jumped on it. Meter says like 1400 hrs, but I think it has a lot of key left on time.

Vince, nice find, and nice to have you posting.

That deck would be the 44 which should cut as nice as the 50C I have. The 46GT deck is the bagging deck, I have one of those too. Since the 46 is designed to be primarily bagging, it has a tall and narrower discharge and windrows the grass real bad when side discharging. It does cut well too, but the windrows are awful even with the discharge chute removed.

Well mowed with it last night, and I gotta say this is the best 44 deck Ive had. I got leveled and NOS sub frame and mule drive. Ill have to do some hydro linkage work this winter, like all hydros need.

Tom the narrow discharge is the big reason we are having a problem selling Exmarks at work. The Scag and the Bota do a much better job throwing the grass cause of the wide opening.

That is a good looking tractor. Plastic looks to be in good shape.

Vince, that is the original engine. Kohler Magnum M18S or QS 24646
MTD wanted a tractor that they could sell to folks for less money so they built the 1541. It was sold as a 15HP but Kohler didn't make a 15HP at the time. So they stuck 15 horse decals onto 18 horse engines and used a smaller main jet in the carb. Toss the carb on from an 18 or change out the jet and your 1541 will instantly become an 1861/2. This was one reason why they changed over to Briggs for the 1641, B&S did make a 16 hp and sold them cheaper than Kohler sold the 18hp for.

I know this has been debated for years about the 1541 but I have a question. At wfo wouldn't the engine be running lean and over heat? IDK, just asking.
