How many hours should i expect from a rebuild mag 18?

Post by duke »

Just getting my 1872 ready for winter.Just changed the oil and filter and the hydro oil and filter.I had the engine rebuild in 2010 and it has 195hours on rebuild.I have had no problems yet.I change oil about every 20hours or less.Looking at my record it surprised me how long ago it was.It has a easy life? The 1st year after rebuild i put 64hr on her but since then the max hours she has got was 30.2.Thanks The winter work is a haban 54" blade Thanks John

Sure looks nice John with the yellow blade! Like the arm rest too. Did u have the engine rebuilt or did u do it yourself? We're there any hurdles that u had to work around? I hear valves r hard to find? I'm thinking about rebuilding my 20 magnum that has 1700 hours......so to answer your question.... 1700 hrs. Lol
:o John.......the IH on the grill?
I LOVE IT ! :P

John , I agree with Dave on about 1700 hrs. if well maintained , maybe longer . I had a 782 with a KT-17 series II ( very similar to a mag 18 ) that I sold Jim W a few years back and the previous owner did regular maintenance on it , and was still running well with over 1600 hrs. on it , it used just a little oil , but you could tell it was getting close to needing a rebuild .
I see a lot of cub cadets while going down the tracks , its a shame I can't pull over and ask about them .

That yellow blade does look awesome on there!!!

I would think that it should last until you don't want to use it anymore at that rate. Pushing that blade will cause wear on the driveline and rag joints before I would think that it would hurt the engine. Just keep the rear axle bolts tight and you should be ok!
