This is where we can discuss all the stuff made after IH's sale to MTD.

1862 oil pressure gauge

Post by wminmi »

Just got my freshly rebuilt M18 fired up and the blasted oil pressure light stays on when the throttle is anywhere from idle to about half way.

I pulled the sentry switch and spun her over and there is SERIOUS pressure....oil shoots out big time....so wondering if the switch is possibly bad?

Either way, would much rather have an actual gauge to see what it's running, but have no clue if it will work and wondering if anybody else has done this?

Either you have a bad wire (short to ground) or a bad oil sentry switch.

I have never done a mechinal oil gauge, but if you could find one that threads into the block I'm sure it would work. You could drill a hole in the dash like the 782d had and put the oil pressure gauge in the center hole. Let us know if you try this mod, be sure to send pictures!

I've replaced a few of those switches with ones for GM small blocks. As for an oil gauge, The ones that screw into a Harley work well on small engines.
