Re: 1872 for the farm.
Well it turns out the 1872 gained a late KT17-2 at some point late in it's life. So that's pulled and it's going to get the already rebuilt M18 that's currently in 1811 #2. I've been playing musical Magnums for the last couple years. The rebuild was bought used for #1, got swapped into #2 when it's stator flaked and is now headed for the SGT.

Aaron - If you don't want to do that much work, you could start by pulling the axle tubes and see how bad the differential housing is. If it just has some stripped threads, Heli-Coils will make it better than new. Then scare up some new axle tubes, and you're back in business.

Hi Tom,
It's bad enough that I think I am going to do the swap while it's apart. I'm more familiar with the early stuff and the C I rear seems like a better design.

Looks good! Did u switch the internals or just install as is? I think there was a slight gearing difference?

Re: 1872 for the farm.
Yep,
You have to swap out the guts from the Super rear. Supers are geared different. The only cast rear you wouldn't have to do that would be the 982's if you had one of those around and used it for the swap. Looks like a nice project. Can't wait to see the finished product!

Re: 1872 for the farm.
You have to use the Super hydro with the reduction gear from the Super together. The ring and pinion are the same between GT and SGT.
AW, makes sense going with the cast iron, I was just trying to save you a little work! The cast iron is a better rear, I just didn't do it on my 2182 because it involves machining to get the axle tubes correct.
The ring and pinion will need to be set up again unless you are using the ring and pinion assembly that was already in the cast rear. (I think AW knows this, just mentioning "for the record" on the thread for anyone not as familiar.)

I see he has that top cover plate off....So maybe all of us r fussing about nothing....Lol. Does this super gear spline right onto all pinion gears? That would sound too easy! Thanks for the info Tom.

Re: 1872 for the farm.
Dave, no, the SGT hydro has a different output shaft, and must be mated to the SGT reduction gear. Cannot mix them; both pieces must be SGT or both must be GT.

Re: 1872 for the farm.
OK....What I was trying to get at but I guess I was not clear. Are all GT and super pinions the same to where the reduction gear will mate or fit right on? I guess so. Thanks again for whatever u told me....

Re: 1872 for the farm.
I cannot believe I am coming to HardHeads aid but I am glad he asked(Thanks Dave )
I have some WF hydros/rears so if my SGT reduction housing is ok I can simply bolt that on to a GT rear and bolt my SGT hydro on?

Re: 1872 for the farm.
Mike, anything you ask is ok, it's just the "dag" guy that's a problem...
This has made me wonder if we might be better off with just one frame bolt on a Super, but then more stress is transferred to the two bolts at the axle carrier. So, the ultimate solution is just nail it all down with extra brackets. I have the extra brackets on two, and the third has the loader with three point hitch, so at least that is tied in better at the rear. I need to get brackets on that one eventually... Crikey, I hope this doesn't become another bracket thread!
Yes. Both the rear differential housing and the adapter housing are the same. When looking for a new adapter housing I like to get one from a non-Super, they haven't usually cracked. The main reason for this is that they attach to the frame with only one bolt, so the bracket can pivot at the frame rather than break the housing.BigMike wrote:I have some WF hydros/rears so if my SGT reduction housing is ok I can simply bolt that on to a GT rear and bolt my SGT hydro on?

Re: 1872 for the farm.
Stripped both castings down to nothing, swapped every gear from SGT to Cast iron. So it was a complete transfer.
As of today the 1872 runs and moves forward and backward. That's the good news.
The bad, driveshaft cut loose at some point in it's past, bent, and I will have to find another one. Tried the hydraulics, one small leak we got stopped but no up and down on the cylinder. Wondering is it's a one way or a two way ram for the lift.
This tractor was literally sold for scrap, I bought it out of the recycling yard, so a few challenges are to be expected.

Re: 1872 for the farm.
OK folks, she runs, got the driveline wobble ironed out, (Bent driveshaft) and she moves. But I have no hydro lift happening. Anyone have the specs for the PN/ 759-3434 kit for the dual circuit lift valve? (Valve Assy, 2 Spool Control) I think I'm going to pull it out and rebuild it.
Any help would be awesome!
