1863 reverse-switch/PTO woes

Post by farmergann »

Hi everyone - lots of great info here, thank you guys for the knowledge!

Got a good deal on an 1863, but the PTO won't stay engaged without holding the switch up. I've got a hunch this little booger has something to do with it. Aside from the obvious fix needed, I was wondering if I could cut the metal lever to keep it from hitting the tiny button thus allowing me to mow in reverse.

I'm mechanically uninclined, so feel free to point and laugh so long as you help :)

Welcome! Great job on your good deal. Yes those safety switches cause lots of trouble. I think most people bypass them. I'm not the one to tell u how to do this as I don't know the wiring on those machines. Try to post a few pictures of your tractor....that will make your thread more exciting....lol
Good luck. Dave

That silly switch worked just fine after I straightened it out and actually found what it was supposed to hook up to. I'm just on the fence as to cutting the lever off or not. I snapped some pics as you suggested and will create a post in the welcome mat area - thanks for the warm welcome :)

I have two that are bypassed and one where that switch now activates a set of LED back-up lights.

I always bend the arm on the switch out of the way of the hydro lever. Mowing in reverse is a must for me. If the switch was bad, I would wire around it, but easiest to just bend lever on switch out of the way if you want to mow in reverse.

Smart. I have to mow in reverse as well... I ended up just mounting it upside down, but bending it is probably a better long term solution given the jumbly mess behind the dash.

Good idea....just remember...u won't be able to mow upside down and backwards now. That could limit your abilities
