Cub Cadet Collectors dot com

So....for too many years I have basically gotten on this thing, engaged the PTO and drivin in circles. No...I did do upkeep maintenance and lube.....but haven't really done anything to help her looks. So it was a nice day.....had a few hours to myself and here goes.
First thing was a little elbow grease with the old hood decals off for a number of years now....some of the old adhesive was starting to show as dust collected in a few areas. Used a cleaner wax and went over sides of hood. Then gave it a bucket bath in the garage. I don't care for hosing down lawnmowers so I just used a few rags and got the mud and grass off the spots that were really bad. Rims cleaned up nice. More than a few years ago I redid this deck with Rust-Oleum almond. Well I knew it was holding up pretty well....but check this out.....it's amazing really.
Next was getting the grill back in. With the 20 hp rebuilt and on the shelf....this now has an 18 in it, and the exhaust pipe stuck out to far to install the grill...so I left it out for a couple years. I protected everything with a sheet and nipped the pipe with the grinder cut off wheel. Finally!! I think I'm gonna put a new seat on.....and get a new gas cap gauge. I think it deserves a new one. I would do new decals.... but it really needs paint..so I'm holding off on those. I will post progress when it happens. Don't expect too much

The engine came from a Cyclops? If so just some heat and a pry bar will make the grill fit. No cutting required!

Joe.... engine is out of my 1872. I don't know why the tail pipe was about 1/2" longer than other. Idk... maybe I have too many rubber drive couplings. I first did shove a 1/2" x3' piece of black pipe in without heat.....and put reasonable pressure..... nothing. This cut took all of 5 minutes. Right now I'm doing a job at a tape/printing company, first thing tomorrow....I'm asking the graphics guy if printing some custom cub decals is within reason They sure had no problem making loads of eagles decals for the big game. Wow...I can't believe I haven't thought of this months ago. Also need...deck warning ones too

This is the first new gas gauge I ever bought. Pretty excited

Nice! Been there and done that on my first 2072. Had to grind the end of a new muffler pipe just like you after original muffler blew one end cap off. And replaced the gas gauge because the clear plastic was no longer see through.

Did you go through Cub for the gas cap/gauge or elsewhere? Cub wants $35 smackers.

Lol..... funny u ask Steve. I got it on eBay for like $23. I thought I was buying a Stens.....and it came in a Stens bag, but the gauge says kelch or something like that. It works real smooth. I'm sure there all made in China.

Did some upkeep to the mower mutt. Last fall I finally installed a nice hood with decals. This afternoon I changed oil and air. Also lubed lots of wear and moving parts.

So I bought a couple generic air filters from eBay for half price. They obviously don't come with the pre filter. Question for anyone. Years ago on my dirt bikes we used to oil the pre filter. I have done that a few times with the Cubs.... But I think I will stop. My thought is it could create too much restriction? I just washed it with soap and water.

So in working on the grass cutter....I noticed a fuel drip on the 127. Had to drain, and show some love to the fuel bowl. Sealed a couple joints, tightened shut off packing, new fuel line. Oh and cleaned the glass. Seems to be holding....but time will tell.

Dave, yes, absolutely oil that foam prefilter! Put in a quart freezer bag, put in a tablespoon or two of oil, then squish around. THEN... remove and pat/squeeze with clean paper towels to remove the excess. If you remove the excess, no extra gets carried into the paper element. End result, lightly oiled and will help keep the paper filter from getting clogged.

Now I have a mental image of dag mowing with his "special helmet" on!! Thanks Mike!

Did you use the spray grease for the PTO?

Rodger that on the pto spray grease. Years ago I had a bearing start making a lot of noise. At that time I think I popped off the balls cover and lubed. Now I drill a hole the size of the straw and hit it about once a year. Seems to me it can't hurt.

Oh and Tom.. your cook book recipe for the air cleaner sounds like you have been in the kitchen too long.... come out and play with the men once in a while.

dag, it's your tractor, you can do it wrong if you want! But since it isn't oiled and won't be stopping much dirt, maybe just wear it as a headband under your "special helmet"!

I'm not having trouble... Yet. Good idea to lube it.

So I saddle up and start mowing only to realize one of the fronts is very low on air. I make my way to the garage and pump it up. As it's getting dark out the mower sounds like it's laboring a little more than normal. At this time is dark out and using the headlights. I finish up and upon dismounting I realized the tire was flat again. U should see the cut....it's lovely probably flat for half hour or more... both beads still welded to the rim.
Next day I tried breaking the bead with a 2x10 and jumping on it. Nothing! Long story short. 15 minutes with the backhoe rear bucket got both bead free.
The tube looks like it failed at a crease where it might have been folded inside the tire. Just wanted to pass on a little tip for some guys. I was told somewhere....get the tube in, inflate to a low pressure....then let all the air out. This will help the tube adjust to hopefully lay a little smother inside and maybe avoid a fold or crease...that I found out first hand...CAN CAUSE A LEAK! Two hrs of my life I will never get back
