1993 1440 won't crank
I was driving my 1440 one day. I parked it and shut it off. The next morning I went to start it and the disengage PTO light came on. I replaced the PTO switchwith a brand new one and checked the PTO kicking on and off with the switch. ANy ideas to share? I am stumped.

the ignition switch plug causes a lot of problems try wiggling it to see if it will crank if so then a new switch and a plug is probably needed

I will try that. It IS so packed in there it may have shorted across and be feeding power to a wrong wire. Thanks.

The wire harness has a 8 pin splice under the dash at the frame also a common week point on that series.

I have unplugged that 8 pin plug and it looks OK. No hot spots and such. What is the remedy if that is bad. There is also a diode connected to that plug. What is that for?

Re: 1993 1440 won't crank
I checked ALL the safety switches and they all checked OK. I checked the ignition switch and it was good as well as the PTO switch. I finally took the cowards way out and ran a jumper from the red and black wire on the switch to the solenoid switch terminal. I know this bypasses the safety switches but I am going to use iit to plow snow and will probably never put a deck on it any way. I thank those that gave advice.

Re: 1993 1440 won't crank
I finally got my 1440 running. It was a seat switch that was shorted. Today I mounted a snow blade on it from a 1200 style tractor. It went right on. To lift it I did make a bracket and weld it to the lift handle from 3/8 thick steel. The rod from the handle to the blade is the same one I made for the 1200. I put an additional lift spring on the blade and with the factory handle it is very easy to lift the blade. It will be great compared to the effort needed to lift it on the 1200. If anyone is interested I have a couple of detail pics I can share.
