Extending steering column?

Anyone ever extend the steering column on a super? I'm used to the wheel being up higher on a standard cyclops and the 2284 puts the wheel barely above my knees. Thinking I could just cut the shaft and add a sleeve to raise it up.

This is a new topic I've never heard of. Get yourself a set of those "ape hanger" handle bars for motorcycles. I'm sure you could weld a washer to the bottom of the bars and bolt them right on. We will need pics when your all done. :)

This is a picture of Big Mike with his apes at the last show me and him were at. I rode on the back for a few miles....but I think his old lady was getting jealous

Nope, no ape hangers for me... I want to be able to steer... It;s an odd thing but one of the few things I wish was different on the supers. They moved the seat and footrests up but left the steering alone. They should have raised the dash as well.

Can you lower that seat mount. I just looked at a picture and looks like that sliding mechanization is about 3". Can you set it where you want...and build a slim mount? Let us know what you do...

Still looking at the options. Because it has the tilt wheel I'm playing with extending it above or below the CV joint. The boot has quite a bit of travel.

Just thinking out loud here. What if you buy a sacrificial wheel on eBay or wherever. Dig out the metal center. Weld on an extension tube on or around that splined center. Then weld your wheel to the tube. If you bore out the center of your wheel center just enough to drop the nut in..you can probably drop the nut down in and bolt it down. This way you don't have to remove colum. I guess what I'm thinking is a wheel with an extended center.
I have it in my head.... just not sure if I explained it good enough? Lol

Dave, with the tilt column it is easy to get to the upper shaft. At the moment I have sort of made a piece as you posted. I have a few spare parts and used the lathe to make a stub shaft that I attached to the original for testing. At the moment that is on hold as I work on making new doors for the cab. I have the soft doors and they have seen better days so I'm using 1" square tube to make the frames and skinning them with sheet steel. Going to cut that out so I can install laminated glass or if I can find a stock size tempered glass like for skid steers or other cabs that don't have a scary price...
