Cub 1872 electrical issues

Post by Brianr »

My 1872 blows the fuse after pto is engaged. Replaced fuse, checked pto wires it has only one wire at pto. Haven’t checked resistance yet not real sure how to that’s one question, the other is the plug for pto switch gets hot. One of the white wires gets real hot. On my switch, I have the two red wires on a plug of their own, then the plug that has three terminals with two white wires going into the same terminal, one white wire on its own terminal and a black wire on its own terminal. The single white wire is the one that gets hot. Any help appreciated.

Two things I would check are cleanliness of the connections and the air gap of the PTO.

This is the wiring for that tractor. From the sound it could be a bad PTO winding. A way to check if it's the PTO is easy, unplug the PTO at the engine. Does the wire still get hot?
