This is where we can discuss all the stuff made after IH's sale to MTD.

Diesel side panels

Post by mikeyb »

I was wondering about this.
I have a 1772 super diesel and the side panels have a vent in them.
My 1512 didn't come with side panels and I would like to put some on it. Anyone ever cut one to fit around the muffler out the side? Every garden tractor diesel I have seen does not have the vent in the panel. Why not??

They came out with the "slot in the side panel" change after they already started producing the diesels. I think they released a technical bulletin to put the slots in the side panels. My 1572 has them. I think you could cut the muffler slot yourself if you used the right equipement to avoid tearing it up.

Thanks Adrian.
Does anyone have that technical bulletin?

Ray,

What tool(s) did you use to cut the side panel for the muffler?

I cut a slot for my 1572. Cut with hack saw and used rat tail file to finish to size.
Looks like factory...

Thanks Ray, Frank, and Jim.

Frank,

Your 1572 turned out good. Looks factory to me.
Jim,

I have one of those too so I will use my 1772 side panel for a pattern and see how it turns out.
