Who's ready for Winter?
It's getting to be around that time of year again. This year I decided to run only one snow removal machine, the 102 with blade.
The Farmer's book is saying brace for a long heavy snowy Winter. This year I'm passing on doing it all myself and have contracted a pro in.
Last year I was very disappointed with the 126 and the QA42. The carb iced up on more than several occasions causing running issues. Last week I drained the gas on it, pulled the mower deck, removed the battery and sprayed it down with oil and covered it up with a new tarp under the patio.
The 102 sat out behind the wood pile for well over two months. When I uncovered it the whole machine was covered in black mold. It was pretty disgusting to look at. Not that she ever shone anyway The battery had run down by then but by switching it out with another she started right up. It needed a bath badly which it got. The seat had turned really icky. I poured some bleach on the seat and let that sit. That did a really nice job busting down the mold. It's all greased, oiled, cleaned and ready to go now waiting for that first big storm. While I have four sets of tire, wheel, and chain combinations on hand my go to first choice is still the 10.5 Kenda's with 2 link cross bars. So anyway, how about it- are you folks getting ready or what?

Re: Who's ready for Winter?
Ken those tire and chains do look good on the 102!
I have mostly been using a Kubota L tractor I got a few yrs ago. It ok but it only has a bucket on the front ( not easy to use for snow). The other day I passed an old snow plow in a guys front yard. I want to stop and see how much he wants for it. I could try to rig that on the bucket or....take the bucket off. I will keep u all posted if I make any headway on that

Don't hold your breath Dag
I have run the gamut from 20" 2 stroke paddle throwers to plow trucks.......from here on it is most likely going to be a 24" 2 stage walk behind.

Re: Who's ready for Winter?
The 1872 is always ready! The three tractor plan allows me to keep the Haban blade, weights and chains on all year. So nice to avoid setting it up each year. The blower will have to wait until 2182-2 is done with leaf chores for the year.
A shot from last winter, but she is outfitted right now and ready to go!
Will be late November before I get the blower on the other one.

Re: Who's ready for Winter?
Tom, I hear ya. It's nice to have a machine dedicated for one use. I keep the blade on that one all year long. Along with a regular seasonal service and four wheel tire change out is all that's needed to switch over from Summer grading to Winter use.
I'm really not in the mood for horsing the qa24 onto the 126 this year either. My backs gotta mend which it is and I need to avoid making stupid choices. Quick attach system that it is. Not.

Re: Who's ready for Winter?
Picture from the last push of this year! Last week I just got the IH 56" snow plow on the 72, and have the tire chains for the ready! New V-bar 4-link, on 23 x 10.5 x12 Goodyear turf that are still in good condition with IH wheel weights inside.
It will load up that blade and move the snow on out like a small child pulling a toy wagon! We contract out a snow guy too. But he wind rows toward the house which upsets me a little, so I'm always pushing his piles back anyway. I got a pretty good drive way that is gravel with a large horse shoe. Coming home late at night from work and getting behind the 72 don't always agree with me, lol! But I have a lot of fun during the heavy snow storms as the plow guy can't keep up and the 72 roars during the early morning hours! I bundle up and I'm out for hours!
I'll go out on a limb and say there is going to be another mild winter again where I live, but rather have a true winter with a lot of snow, especially for Christmas! { oops, did I just say that?}

Re: Who's ready for Winter?
Ken - Yeah, I only have one attachment swap now, remove mower when leaves are done and put blower on, and weights, and chains... The 450/451/551 blowers don't just "fall onto the tractor" by themselves either! I have made it easier by having the blower stored on a dolly that is a good height to install.
If I had just one more tractor, I would be set up like Paul, always ready! But I don't have room for another machine and having some multi-use out of one does have some appeal.

Joe, get it right, it was a brownie pan, "BPMP" (brownie pan mulch plug)! Patent pending... viewtopic.php?f=8&t=5304
I built the shed when I had one tractor so I could by a second. Now I have three, with two in the garage and one in the shed, so all full. I really want another garage, but I have several kids heading to college! I wouldn't mind an 1882 either...
Brandon, good looking stuff, I wish I had time for more paint work. Maybe this summer I can get to finishing the 551 that I started on...

Wow.... Brandon...that IH blade is too nice to use. Please put that in your basement and get an old one to distroy on that stone driveway. Got any pics of it all together yet? I have the same blade (54",small ram?) in good shape. Mine is what I call too nice to paint. I got it from Ray's probably 6-7 yrs ago.

Re: Who's ready for Winter?
Dag,
I don't plan on using that blade. I will probably hang it on my 782 and just look at it. The blade and most of the parts were powder coated. I only painted the cylinder. I do plan on using the 450 blower though. Yes, that is mounted on your 2072!

Got the 450 blower mounted on the 982. Put a new brass worm gear in the blower gearbox last year and got the 982 serviced and ready to roll. Got a snow plow for the 102 for small snows, good to go

Re: Who's ready for Winter?
Just wore out. I was using it on the only sizable snow we got last winter and the augers stopped spinning figured shear pins(heavy wet snow). Got it to garage and saw it was in the box. Tore that apart and teeth were gone, not sure why the oem gear was aluminum hopefully the new brass one will hold up better. Yeah I do get the paper delivered, ha, even tho I'm not here much to enjoy itdag1450 wrote:Looks Nice! Did the old gear just wear out....or did you hit a newspaper?
